Enjoy your ride – but stay safe!
- Tasmania’s scenery, wilderness, twists and turns make for fantastic riding – but take care, the conditions can be very different to the rest of Australia
- Ride at a speed that suits the conditions – obey the speed limits but slow down if conditions require – remember that speed limits are a guide, not a target
- Be prepared for road and weather conditions to change quickly
Look out for:
- wildlife and roadkill – especially early in the morning and at night
- Gravel, dirt, rocks
- Livestock, farm vehicles, logging trucks and machinery
- Caravans or bicycles travelling slowly
- Overhanging trees and fallen branches
- Black ice and moss – especially in shaded areas
- With windy roads, and spectacular views – travel time can take longer than you expect
- Don’t ride for too long in one day – Limit riding to 300km per day and take frequent rest breaks
- Let someone know where you’re going
- When riding in a group keep a safe distance between you and the rider in front of you.
